Indian GSM operators for HSPDA

At one hand where TRAI is still working out the regulations for 3G mobile based services, GSM operators in India are already eyeing for HSPDA, which allows five times faster access rate as compared to current 3G standards.

In the race to offer higher data speeds to mobile users, GSM-based operators are now looking at deploying the latest technology called the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) that promises to offer speeds that are five times faster than current 3G technology. [viaThe Hindu Business Line]

The move is aimed at countering the challenge from Reliance Infocomm's EV-DO (evolution data optimised) technology based on the CDMA platform.

With 14mbps of speed, its going to be major step towards the PC-mobile convergence.
