Cut the fence

One of the biggest inability of mobile operators to cash in the data services is because they believe they know best what any user would want to do with mobile data, and therefore keep their gardens fenced up high & tight.

Mike Masnick takes example from the Recording industry and advocates more involvement of Operator during the content development process and facilitating the small content innovators.

Best results come out when a company have the resources at the disposal as that of a big companies and act fast like small companies..

There are some good example amongst the operator's itself like KDDI which keeps just around 9% of the content revenues as against European and Indian operators which ranges from 50-80% and passing meager. If not getting directly involved in the content generation, giving away the bigger pie portion to developers supports the ecosystem.
